We’ve made it quick and convenient way to understand the process and benefits of our services by giving you an example of a past clients interaction with us.

I recently helped a senior who was living in a 2-bedroom independent retirement community in Guelph. She was paying $5,000 per month with everything included but meals. She was at a young age (74) but had a lot of mobility concerns and was not able to walk much. Her family was in Caledon and Caledon East. She had 480k in savings and she had pension and old age income of $2,000 per month. She contacted me to help her with her situation. We had 3-hour consultation where we talked through her concerns and desires. These were her concerns and desires:
Finances – couldn’t afford $5,000 per month for the next 20 years.
Meal plan – She was unable to cook for herself anymore but couldn’t afford to have someone cook for her.
Safety/Security – She wanted to feel safe and have that comfort.
Location – She wanted to be close to stores and pharmacy.
Mobility – She wanted to be on the ground floor as her mobility for easy in and out access.
Environment – Sun light. She wanted a place that allowed her to sit in the sun.
Family & Friends – Family was over an hour away to get to her if there was an emergency. Close friend in Guelph.
LHIN – Moving to another district and having to change LHIN region and have delay of services.
Dog Walker – She was currently getting volunteer dog walker to come and walk her dog.
Parking – Underground parking for her car in the winter.
5 Options I presented to her:
1. Rental Condo in Guelph
2. Buy condo in Guelph
3. Rental Condo in Bolton
4. Buy Condo in Bolton
5. Downsize to a 1 bedroom in all-Inclusive retirement community in Bolton
I researched all the options to taking in her age, medical conditions, financials, family and friend locations, and her personal needs. We mapped out a 20-year financial snapshot of her for each option over the results were this.
1. Rental Condo in Guelph
With her age being only 74, her financial situation, and her medical conditions being low-medium concerns. The best solution was for her to stay in Guelph in a rental unit where she was saving approximately $2,000 per month. We decided to rent a high-end condo at approximately $2,900 per month. It was a ground floor unit facing north-west with high security, underground parking and close to shopping centre. I negotiated the move date, rental price, and got 3-month free parking for her. I organized the move by hiring a down-sizing company to pack up her stuff and have it moved on the desired date. We had her prescriptions delivered to her monthly for free, she kept all her free services from the LHIN and dog walking. We had frozen and hot meals delivered to her through a meal delivery company. She had a close friend in the city to help her when she needed the extra help. We decided this is the is the solution for the next 10 years, then move her to an all-Inclusive retirement community is Bolton when she needs more support, and her life expectancy is shorter, and she is more financial stable to spend $5,000 per month. She would also be closer to her family where they are able to spend more time together and able to respond to any medical emergencies. Giving any medical issues or changes, that timeline can move up or down. She is now happy and settled in her new condo, with a plan for the future. Knowing what will happen if anything happens to her, gives her greatest comfort in the years ahead.
