From moving stubborn seniors from home to guiding them through the positive process of a retirement community.
My time as an independent retirement salesperson over the last 10 years is really what has inspired me to do what I do today. I remember endless calls from families that were looking for room availability, but more importantly, looking for guidance through a situation that was very emotional and stressful. I always had the initial response to help them more than I professionally could. On occasion I did help them more than I was professionally responsible for but far too many times I’ve had to say, “I’m sorry I can’t help you, but this is who can…”. I have always felt the moral obligation to help them, but the professional obligations in working with a specific company held me back. This used to bug me deep down in my heart but now I am free to give it my all and see it through to the end.

This is the stem of what RMcQueen Consulting is about. Being able to help seniors and their loved ones in any situation. No matter where they are, who’s involved, medical background, and conditions. I am now able to take those calls from family members struggling to deal with their parents. I can provide them with a solution that I can see all the way through. Whether it be a daughter asking about respite care because their mother is being released tomorrow morning and they have no place for her to go or the son that is looking around for long term care facilities but doesn’t understand the differences between facilities or the senior that calls and says “$5,000per month! I can’t afford that!” and actually can't afford it after some financial consultation. These are all the scenarios that I can confidently engage with and help educate, comfort, and present a plan that will help them in their daily lives. Not only that, but I can also execute that plan for them and make their transition smoother. If it’s moving options, scheduling move ins between the family and the community, or guiding the family through the application process. In my time, I’ve moved more than a thousand seniors into independent retirement communities in my career and not all of them have gone as smoothly as they could over the years, but I have learned to put in place things to make sure it is the smoothest transition it can be! I make sure that a resident feels at home and thrives in their new community. It’s the best feeling in the world when they tell me “ I should have done this years ago!” Their families are so grateful they have made the move and are so happy to see them thrive in a new environment that benefits them mentally and physically. With that in mind, it became my new objective to help them make the leap even sooner and help them start this new, exciting phase of their life.

This is what has led me to where I am today. Through listening and learning from feedback, reflecting on what worked the best, what was the most effective, and most importantly, empathy. I would consider empathy my biggest strength to move help seniors into independent retirement community. My speciality is the stubborn senior that will never leave this house. “Carry me out in a box, because that’s the only way I will go” they say. The seniors that have their family members going crazy trying to help them. Living in 4-bedroom house by themselves and having too much responsibility on their plate that they can’t handle. Being alone which could be a risk to their health and safety. I’ve learned to help them let go of that stubbornness and see the light the end of the tunnel. This has helped me change my metrics of inquiries to move in drastically. We all know this is a common theme and one we would all love to conquer and will make or break your success. This was by far the biggest change that made my community go from 90% occupancy to 100% occupancy and have people waiting to move in. Now I can help any senior, in any town, moving to any community. The possibilities are endless, and I can’t wait to help seniors and their families across the province. I’m so excited to change so many lives in such a positive way! It makes my heart soar.
